Capable of producing complex workpieces weighing up to 400 kg efficiently, reliably and precisely from a wide range of materials, from aluminium to titanium, the new DMP 35 has been added to the range of vertical machining centres available from DMG MORI, Coventry. Occupying a footprint of just 3.15 m² on the shop floor, the standard 3-axis version may be optionally supplied as a 5-axis model and automated pallet handling can be fitted.
Axis travels of 350 x 420 x 380 mm are generous considering that the machine width is only 1,285 mm if a 15-station tool magazine is fitted, rising slightly to 1,410 mm if an alternative 25-pocket magazine is chosen. Underlining the breadth of options available, a user is able to select a 24,000 rpm / 52 Nm inline spindle and an HSK-A40 or SK 30 interface in place of the standard 15,000 rpm / 78 Nm spindle.
The machining centre is also fast. Up to 2g acceleration delivers a quick chip-to-chip time of 1.5 seconds. Rapid traverse of 60 m/min in all orthogonal axes minimises non-cutting times. Linear scales are fitted as standard for feeding back axis positions to the Siemens control.
A further option is the integration of a swivelling rotary table for 5-axis simultaneous metalcutting. The stable design ensures vibration-free, accurate milling in applications demanding high quality requirements. A 40 bar internal coolant supply is offered as well as a chip conveyor with a capacity of up to 1,000 cm³/min, ensuring high process reliability during production.
Requiring an additional floor area of 1.15 m², a WH 3 automation unit manufactured by DMG Mori can be connected to the DMP 35. It is said to be particularly easy to program, even by inexperienced operators. Rapid autonomous exchange of machine pallets fixtured with raw material or finished components raises productivity considerably. It additionally introduces the possibility of six-sided machining and allows long periods of unattended operation, including lights-out.
DMG Mori also offers the DMP 70 with axis travels of 700 x 420 x 380 mm for the production of larger components in a footprint of 4.2 m².
