Ilkeston-based precision laser cutting company, FC Laser Limited, has secured £1.1 million in funding from Lombard and NatWest. The deal has helped fund the acquisition of two state-of-the-art cutting machines, which are to be housed in the business’s purpose-built manufacturing facility.

The new machines perform up to three times faster than their predecessor, and consume less power and gas. They will improve efficiency by 40%, giving the business a significant competitive advantage.

FC Laser has seen strong growth since its launch in 2012. It recently moved into its own specially designed premises in Ilkeston, which houses Europe’s largest installation of three 10 kilowatt Bystronic Fibre Lasers.

The company, which has the capacity to deliver both large-scale production and one-off projects, supplies businesses across the architectural, engineering and automotive industries. The Shard and Sydney Opera House are among the high profile projects it has supported. With a solid reputation for delivering a comprehensive service and high-quality products, the business utilises the very latest equipment, including Bystronic CO2 and Fibre Lasers.

FC Laser runs an annual apprentice scheme and estimates that of 15% of its workforce are apprentices.

Danny Fantom, Managing Director at FC Laser Limited, said: “FC Laser is entering an exciting period of growth and innovation, and we are grateful for the role that Lombard and NatWest have played in supporting us throughout the process.

“Our new equipment means we will be able to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to productivity, putting us in a strong position to grow year on year.”

Veronica Wales, Lombard Relationship Manager, said: “FC Laser prides itself on both cost-efficiency and the high quality of its products and services, and it has been extremely rewarding to have helped the business continue in this tradition.”

Steve Smith, NatWest Relationship Manager, said: “We are confident that the business will continue to deliver a first class service for its clients in the UK and beyond, delivering jobs, skills and investment to the region.”
